Classroom Guidance
Classroom guidance lessons are a great way for me to interact with all of the students. At Park Hills, each classroom can expect several visits from me throughout the year. Topics can vary by grade level, need, and teacher request. Classroom lessons are intended to teach or reinforce skills such as feelings management, decision making, friendship skills, anti-bullying, career awareness, safety skills and diversity appreciation. The elementary guidance curriculum is ever evolving as we strive to be proactive and relevant to the needs of our students.
Small Group Counseling/Kids Group
Throughout the year I meet with small groups of students who demonstrate a need for extra support in certain areas. Some examples of Kids Group topics include social skills/friendship, feelings management, attendance support and grief and loss. Kids Group meets weekly for approximately 7-8 weeks. Students can be referred for a Kids Group by the classroom teacher, parent, or they can also self refer.
Individual Counseling
Sometimes students have a need to talk on an individual basis. I am here to meet with students who are experiencing a problem or concern. However, I am unable to provide long term counseling. Since my services are not meant to serve as a replacement for outside therapy, I can refer families to local counselors who have extensive training in assisting children and families.
Parent/Teacher Consultation
A lot of my time is spent in meetings and on the phone with parents, teachers and agencies as we put our heads together to help support children. Please do not hesitate to call me if I can be of assistance this school year!
